Book Club December

We did it! Last book of the year!

Just like that, we’ve reached our final book of 2020. Looking forward from 2019, everyone anticipated a Gatsby-esque Roaring ‘20s, filled with parties and dancing and beautiful dresses. Though that does not necessarily describe what we’ve gotten so far, 2020 truly has been a year like no other we’ve ever experienced. One world-wide pandemic later, most of us can say, without a doubt, that we are not the same people we were in 2019. The holidays are always crazy – with gift buying, travel plans, and family visits – but this year feels bound to be crazier than ever. Delia Owen’s Where the Crawdads Sing felt like the perfect end to a not always perfect year. A tale of childhood strength through isolation, Owen’s novel reminds us of the beauty in the everyday, so long as we just step out our front door and into the world.

Take a break from the holiday madness with us, and step into the marshes of 1960’s North Carolina.

December:

Where the Crawdads Sing

by Delia Owens

IMG_0192.JPG

In this heartbreaking coming-of-age novel, young Kya becomes the suspect of a murder in 1969 North Carolina. However, things may not always be as they seem. Owen’s beautiful tale of nature, isolation, and murder describes the lasting aftershocks of childhood.

For when: You want to get in touch with nature and yourself.

Can I watch the movie?: Not yet, but Reese Witherspoon’s working on it. A movie is currently in the writing stage and has no set release dates yet. For a similar experience, we recommend Into the Wild, Water for Elephants, or Wild.
