Five Ways to Stay Sane While Staying at Home

With a pandemic in full effect and stay-at-home orders prevalent, you might be finding yourself getting a little stir crazy. Don’t give up, we have a few tips for staying sane and healthy during these unusually trying times.

GET DRESSED

During this time, it may seem much more appealing to wear your pajamas all day long just to change into a fresh set before going to bed the next night (trust me, I get it!). However, getting dressed, even if just in loungewear or sweats, helps you maintain structure and routine to days where they seem lack. By planning what pieces to wear and how to style them, you are occupying your mind as well as giving yourself something to look forward to each day. Go ahead and style your hair and put on a bit of makeup too just for fun! Make your long, strange days seem just a little more normal.

ORGANIZE

Remember all those chores you said you would do if you just had the time? Well now all you have is time! Yes, that’s right, now is the time to de-clutter your bedroom, go through old clothes to give away to Goodwill or sell to  thrift shops, do ALL the laundry, and give your bathroom a good scrub-down. Not only will organizing your home take up time in your day, but it will also leave you feeling more accomplished and at-ease.

EXERCISE

One of the best ways to make use of your abundance of free-time is by exercising! Not only does exercising make your brain release endorphins that make you feel good, but if there ever was a chance to get that rockin’ summer bod, it’s now! Chances are, if you have a membership at a local gym or studio, they probably aren’t open right now -- but don’t be discouraged! Many gyms and studios have special videos and online classes that are free for members and discounted for nonmembers, so check out their websites. If you don’t have a membership at a workout center and don’t want to pay to exercise, don’t be discouraged; there are endless amounts of of fitness YouTube channels, apps, and social media influencers all providing workouts for free! My personal favorite fitness app is called Butt Workout -- it always makes me break a sweat! If none of those appeal to you, then get some fresh air and exercise by taking a walk around your neighborhood or a local trail.

READ

Do you feel like you have watched, like, everything on Netflix? Well, next time you think of reaching for the T.V. remote, reach for a good book instead! Reading is a great way to entertain yourself while also challenging your brain. Start a new fiction series, learn something new about a different culture, become an expert on something. The literature world is your oyster.
